A Dark Malaise sweeping the Land, a Great Kingdom on the Brink of Civil War, and still, the Analyst’s pen falls to the Paper (The Jolly January Update)

And here we are, yet again, for another month’s update – How exciting!

Have some music to start us off on the right foot. How about some easy listening from an online game I’ve never gotten around to playing?

Now then, onto the events of the month:

Occult Vengeance is OUT!

That’s right; New year, new reads!

You can grab this handsome adventure right now at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083ZHVV1R – Enjoy!

This has been a bit of a wild time for me, with work picking up, and so many books to release on such an aggressive (for me) timeline, it’s all I can do to crack the whip and keep6 up with all of this, as well as keeping to a consistent quality. It’s been a struggle to put everything together and keep all the ducks in a row, just like with The Scar last month. I enjoy my job, but sometimes, when you’re working 6 AM to 6 PM with lunch “breaks” at the desk, it can get a little crazy.

That said, I’m really proud of this one, even though I know a lot of folks may not be ready for it to be the first of mine they read- I’m expecting to be a lot of folks who aren’t yet “cool” enough to deal with this one. There’s going to be some people insulted by this one due to the spirit of the age that we’re in, despite how low-impact I myself think the stuff is, but I’m quite alright with that – I’m not going to pull back when it comes to writing the stories I feel need to be told, and I’m not interested in thin-skinned readers who would put the books down the moment they get real. A few touchy questions may come up, but I’m ready for that, I think – I’m far more interested in making sure people get a cool thing to read. I super hope you’ll like this one.

The last series I started was Substation 7, and that feels like such a long time ago! If I’m not mistake it was sometime late in 2019, goodness!

That said if you’re looking for a cool, crazy dark fantasy with a tortured protagonist that just can’t seem to catch a break until he meets his sassy fairy companion, check out Occult Vengeance. The sequel, Mystic Vengeance, is slated for May, so you won’t have long to wait for the next entry in the series.

The Lore Tab is getting a ton of characters!

Now take a peek at this!

I’ve been hard at work expanding the “lookupable” universe for the Holy Verses, and as such have devoted some time to writing out various characters, including their lives, hobbies, and more!

Actually since beginning, we’re on the cusp of completing ten whole character entries, with a lot more to go.

Say hello! Extra points if you can recognize (or at least give a good guess as to) every one of them (spoilers, they’re all listed at https://kellinkston.com/2020/02/04/characters/):

I figured this would be a cool side project to the main writing and also give those extra story-sensitive readers a little extra to munch on and consider as they wait between books.

Could it be that all of these weirdos are connected in some unspeakable way? What kind of dark thread of fate is awaiting us all? Oh, and don’t worry. There’s plenty more yet to come, including entries for Mort and Effie, along with all the other “Rondian Legacy” books when they come along.

Short Story of the Month: Nothing, actually!

Man, this smarts…

I regret to inform you that we yet again will not have a short story out this month, even though I have two that are very close to being done.

I know consistency is a special boon in the world of art, but I’m afraid I just don’t have anything new short-story wise that I’d be comfortable with sharing yet – I appreciate your understanding.

Reflection: Ads that work pretty darn well

So I’ve been at this advertising thing for my books off and on for about as long as I’ve been writing. From the young years of me basically attacking people with my books to get their attention, to nowadays where I am but a whisper in the wind to hopefully get a similar result.

I, like your typical author, am not the sort to yell at the top of a mountain, but I really do believe in the messages of the books, especially the ones that will be tying off the narrative arcs.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly aware the current books coming out can easily be swept into the “genre fiction” category without much sleep lost, but even then I see that there’s much more hidden behind the scenes in one book to the next. I harp on this often (perhaps a sign of my degenerating mental condition) but I am convinced these books will change the world for the better.

That said, I’d like to share with you one of my recent successes. You see, my ads, particularly my facebook ads, have been doing a supreme job in bringing new readers into the realm of the Holy Verses where you and I now live – in fact, for many of you, this is your very first monthly update email! So, hello there!

Fiddling with keywords and audience targeting has been a strange bit of fun that I did not expect to enjoy so much, but I suppose it was only a matter of time before the brick wall I’d slam my head against would start to budge ever so slightly.

I’ll have more findings to report in the future, so look forward to that if you’re especially interested in doing some yourself!

Parting for the Month:

Thanks so much for keeping by my side during all these difficult times. Shockingly, the epidemic has made my work harder rather than easier. I do not get to work from home often, and there’s still plenty to carry on with so many people calling out of the office; EVEN SO, I shall not let that deter me. You and me, reader – we’ shall press on into the uncertain twilight of our entropy-stricken world and find what we’ve always been looking for!

I look forward to the months and years ahead, and I hope you do as well. We have a lot to be grateful for, after all.

I’ll see you next month,

Kell Inkston
