A brave new year for a Brave New Kell – the January 2025 Kell Inkston Update

Wowee! Sure is nice to endure the depths of Winter with family and friends.

But enough about the changing of the Sun and Moon, let’s talk about the changing of us!

Now enjoy this music and let’s get on with it:

Today’s musical forecast: heartwarming piano to delight felines (and humans)

And by “Pretty Great” I mean “One of the best I’ve ever had.”

It really pays off to take the time to reflect and remember what in the world I’m even trying to do. The last couple of months helped me realize just how charged I am to do new and exciting things. It’s truly wild: it’s like having the fusion reaction of a star inside of me. I get energy out of nowhere and it feels like a constant source of positive “can-do” attitude. I have to temper this impulse lest I bite off more than I can chew again, but it seems like even my ability to chew has increased grandly over the past few fortnights – it’s good stuff.

I made my first ever turkey all by myself, which may in fact be some kind of United States right of passage by this point, but whatever it is, I pulled it off (shockingly) quite well and everyone liked it. Now I just need to learn how to make a perfect apple pie and you can pop me right on the ship to Mars as a space pilgrim… or something like that.

Holiday dinners are special times, and it feels like mastering the art of taking care of others in times like those are a great way to show people that you love them a whole lot, and loving on people in ways that they can understand is a crucial skill in any era I think.

Anyway, off to the crazy things…

Yes, on the topic of “biting off more than I can chew” I’m about to chew my biggest bite yet.

I’ve resumed development on the visual novel game Letter out of Order. I need to break out into the universe of interactive digital media somehow or other, and I’ve decided that this is going to become a serious foray into the attempt.

Once it’s done, you too can step into the shoeless feet of Delivery Minion, and take parcels on the High Overlord’s whim to his greatest enemies as well as some total weirdos that he just really wants to send messages to, including some characters that haven’t had the opportunity to show up in any of the books!

Ever wondered what a “rival” overlord to Chaos would like? She’s quite the toxic personality, I assure you.

Curious what the deal is with Ywn? Well, now you can like, meet him!

Been dying to play a game of memory match with Knight Law? Well, yup: the time’s a coming!

Take note – updates about this will not be very often because video games, even visual novels take a ridiculous amount of time to create, especially as a side-project. Books come first, and you’re about to see a lot of that action this year: granted, most of them will be audiobooks and rereleases of such, but there’s still going to be a lot of newness this year.

Here’s the game logo (for the meantime) so you can dream about our beloved Delivery and Scout Minions slamming letters into the hands of recipients like no tomorrow.

Look forward to it! If you’d like to apply to be a play tester (or even want to assist directly in development) email me at kell@kellinkston.com and we can chat it over.

This guy is just too good – in fact, I’d bet he’s good enough to do a game project or something…

Let’s not beat around the bush. This is going to be my most difficult year as an author yet.

The laundry list is immaculately long. I am planning creating and narrating audiobooks for all of my releases save a small amount of the short stories and Voidstar Empire (sorry folks, not quite yet) and then concurrently re-release all ebooks and print editions, as well as any print editions that aren’t out yet. This will give me a few small opportunities to make a few cool tweaks to a few of the stories: again, nothing major, but popping in a few hints for stuff way in the future that I think will result in a much more enjoyable catalog of stories for new readers.

As one of the primary goals of all this is to create something that can be enjoyed from multiple angles by multiple kinds of people across the world (yes yes: “experts” always say to niche down) this is a rare chance to essentially re-re-connect all the pieces of the puzzle in a way that’s not simply enjoyable, but downright groundbreaking. I don’t think I know of an author that’s attempted this and also pulled it off successfully, so keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I travel down this exceptionally unpaved road.

That’s all for this month – I hope you stay healthy and are enjoying at least 20 minutes of exercise at least three times a week.

All the best,

Kell Inkston
